"Rockdale Pilot is Killed in Korea" [4]

Lt. Owen F. Williams, 33, of the U.S. Navy Air Force has been killed in Korea, according to a telegram received by his father, W. J. Williams, who lives 7 miles northwest of Rockdale.

The wire reported Lt. Williams was killed while attempting to takeoff from a naval plane-carrier. The plane exploded and the body was never recovered, the wire stated. The accident occurred Wednesday, September 17.

Williams was a World War II veteran, having served 6 years in the naval air force at that time. He returned to active service in 1950 and has been flying in the Korean conflict for the past six months.

Born in Hagg County, Texas, on March 25, 1919, Williams attended school in Minerva, later transferring to San Pedro High School in California. He has been away from this community for the past six years.

Lt. Williams is survived by his wife, Nadine; three sons, Dennis, Michael and Terry; his father W. J. Williams and six brothers and one sister as follows: W. B. Williams of Rockdale, Lee Williams of San Angelo, Cage Williams of Lometa, California, Fred Williams of Oceanside, California, Everett Williams of San Pedro California, Zed Williams of Eldo, Nevada, and Mrs. Thad George of Carlsbad, California.
