Cemetery Name
- Ragsdale-Davis Cemetery (See: Moss Cemetery) -
-
- Ray Cemetery - This cemetery is located in the northeast quadrant of Milam Co. and is about 1-mile southwest of Briary Creek.
-
- Renshaw Cemetery - This cemetery is located in the northwest quadrant of Milam Co. To get to this inactive cemetery from Cameron, take State Hwy 36 to FM 1600 and when FM 1600 makes a sharp turn to the right, continue straight onto CR 219. Go past the Battle-Castillo Cemetery on the right. This cemetery is a short distance and is in an open pasture under some ash trees on a hill and is surrounded by a wrought iron fence. You will need permission to enter this private property. In 1999, the area was overgrown with weeds and brush.
-
- Resley Cemetery - This cemetery is located in the southeast quadrant of Milam Co. To get to this abandoned cemetery, located a short distance from the Cameron-Hanover Road (FM 2095), take State Hwy 36 south to FM 2095 and turn left. There is only one remaining gravemarker. The local lore states the cemetery was in the path of a new road and the road-graders went through part of the cemetery destroying the markers and scattered bones about.
-
- Rice Cemetery - This cemetery is located in the southeast quadrant of Milam Co. It is in the Rice Community and was formerly called the Rice Schoolhouse and the burial grounds were known as the Rice Farm Cemetery. To get to this active cemetery from Cameron, take State Hwy 36 and U.S. Hwy 77 south about 6-miles. At CR 241 turn right and proceed about 2-miles and it will be on the left-hand side of the road. In 2000, there were about 300 graves in the cemetery. The land for the cemetery was given by William rice and he was the first burial in 1864. However, in Mary Belle Batte’s book, History of Milam County, it is written the first grave was for a Confederate war refugee who died of fever in the 1860s.
- Early History
-
- Richards Cemetery (White) - This cemetery is located in the southwest quadrant of Milam Co. To get to this abandoned cemetery from Rockdale, take U.S. Hwy 77 towards Thorndale about 4-miles and it is on the right-hand side of the road in a pasture. Permission must be obtained from Alcoa to enter the pasture and walk to the cemetery. In 1982, it was necessary to cross two dirt dams that are badly rutted. If it has been wet, the area is slick and makes climbing the steep banks of the earth dams difficult. After the second dirt dam, bear right and at that point, there should be a large open field or pasture. Continue right and walk along the trees. Watch carefully for the cemetery and its cyclone fence are to the right. There are 14 gravemarkers in the cemetery.
-
- Richards Cemetery (Black) - This cemetery is located in the southwest quadrant of Milam Co. To get to this abandoned black cemetery from Rockdale, take U.S. Hwy 77 towards Thorndale about 6-miles and turn left onto CR 1786, or Alcoa Road, and continue about 5-miles. At the sign for the main Alcoa offices, turn left. Permission must be obtained from Alcoa to pass through the gate and a guide will accompany you. It is suggested you make an appointment in advance. In 1993, there were 11 gravemakrkers.
-
- Riddle Cemetery - This cemetery is located in the southwest quadrant of Milam Co. To get to this closed cemetery from Rockdale, take U.S. Hwy 79 to Plum St. and turn south and go to Martin Luther King Dr. and turn and proceed several more blocks to 7th St. and turn right onto Baxter St. Permission to enter the locked gate must be obtained from the Riddle Family. There are about 35 burials in the cemetery.
-
- Riverside Cemetery - This cemetery is located in the northwest quadrant of Milam Co. To get to this abandoned and lost cemetery from Cameron take Crockett St. southwest from State Hwy 36 to FM 1600 and FM 1600 will turn sharply to the right, but continue straight onto CR 219. The Riverside farm is at the end of this road. The burial ground was next to a creek at the bottom of a hill on the right-hand side. After the War Between the States (or Civil War), it was the custom to use convict labor to clear land and to farm the vast rich bottomland. In the 1940s, the old houses where the convicts lived were bulldozed down and when the fences were removed so the land could be plowed, about a dozen skeletons were uncovered. They were reburied, but no one could identify the people.

- Saint (St.) Michael's Catholic Church Cemetery - This cemetery is located in the northwest quadrant of Milam Co. To get to this active cemetery from Cameron, take U.S. Hwy 77 north and drive about 10-miles to CR 133-B and turn right and continue a short distance. There are three cemeteries at this location. The first entrance on the right side of the road is the Burlington Cemetery. The second gate is for the St. Michael’s section. The third is the Hispanic Cemetery, which is located in the back of St. Michael’s. The Burlington Community was first called Irish Settlement and the Catholics built a church in the 1880s. Burlington became the permanent name in 1889 and was named after Burlington, VT.
