From the Victoria Crossroads of South Texas (Winter) published by the Victoria Genealogical Society:
Youve Come Along Way Baby! Have you located a female ancestor going through the procedure to become a naturalized citizen even though your records show she was born in the United States? She could have lost her citizenship if she married an immigrant not yet a citizen. To regain her citizenship, she had to go through the naturalization process. If her husband became a citizen before his death, there would be no problem. If he died before citizenship was obtained, she would loose her right to citizenship. (This portion of the citizenship law has since changed.)
