At our November meeting, we discussed our project which is to sponsor some type of appropriate memorial for the people killed in the Mundine Hotel Fire on June 4, 1888 in Rockdale. Eugenia Newton gave a report on the event and a discussion is to be made at the December meeting. [NOTE: For further information on the fire, visit the MCGS website at: [http://www.geocities.com/milamco/milam-224.htm.]
Barbara Valek returned to our meetings and resumed the office of Treasurer as her husbands health is improved. We were happy to hear her good news and to have her back with us.
As Bob Narvaez has moved to South Carolina, we have elected Rusty to be the Library Chairman.
Caroline Kibodeaux announced she was leaving the library. Our January meeting is to be a trip to the Bryan Public Library on Jan. 7th. We would like to express our appreciation to Caroline for the work she has done as program chairman and for her efforts on behalf of the MCGS as librarian of the Lucy Hill Patterson Memorial Library. We could not have wished for a more helpful and resourceful librarian. We wish her well in her new endeavors.
Dues for 1995 are due in February and our new officers are to be installed at the February Meeting.
Our December meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. at the NBC Bank. We will bring food and discuss: (1) a project involving Milam County obituaries as a way to raise money for the Society; and (2) the memorial project.
