THE EARLY HISTORY OF MILAM COUNTY

BIBLIOGRAPHY

In the preparation of this thesis the author has had access to the manuscript collections belonging to the State Capital, the University of Texas, and the General Land Office. Among the papers to be found at the Capital which have contributed especially to this study may be mentioned the Record Books to be found in the Secretary of State's office; the Army Papers, 1835-1846, and the Lamar Papers; and the Papers relating to Indian Affairs, 1835-1846. In the University Library the Austin Papers, the Erath Papers, and the Ford Papers have been used extensively. Valuable materil(sic) concerning the settlers in the county has been secured from the Census of Texas in 1850, of which the University of Texas has secured Photostat copies for Milam County from the census Bureau at Washington. At the Land Office the Muster Rolls, the Records of Wm. H. Steele in the Robertson County Records, and the Translations of the Contracts of the Empresarios have been used.

Other manuscript material from which the writer has drawn extensively includes the Life of Austin by Dr. Eugene Barker, and Judge George W. Tyler's History of Bell County.

The Milam County records in the office of the Milam County Abstract Company at Cameron, Texas, have also been consulted.
