Cook Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. BORN c.1887. She was preceded in death by her husband on 4/27/1970, a son, 4 brothers, and a sister. SURVIVORS: Daughter, Mrs. J.R. (Potsy) Allen of Roswell, NM.; brother, Bertrand Haygood Camp of Temple; 3 grandchildren, Potsy Allen, Jr. of Austin, Ann Allen Ray of Wisconsin and Howard Amason Allen, Austin; 2 great-grandchildren.

AMASON, Howard of Roswell, NM. Age 83. Died 4/27/1970. Graveside services held 4/29 in Oakwood Cemetery, Austin. Mr. Amason was BORN 4/20/1887 and a descendant of one of the pioneer families of Thorndale area. Lived in Thorndale for many years prior to his removal to Austin, thence to Roswell. SURVIVORS: Wife, Mrs. Birdie Camp Amason, sister of the late H.M. Camp of Thorndale; a daughter, Mrs. R.J. "Potsy" Allen of Roswell, NM.; sister, Mrs. Annie Mae Clement of Austin; 3 grandchildren. He was an uncle of Earl Elliott, Thorndale; Hope Camp, Jr and Ike Camp, both of San Gabriel. SS Death Benefit on #525-10-6413.

AMES, Robert F. of Plantation, FL. Age 78. Died 11/30/1989 at Covenant Village in Plantation, FL. Burial 12/11. Memorial services held at Chapel in Holmstad, Batavia, Illinois. He was BORN 6/8/1911 in Akron, Ohio, son of John Quincy & Edna Graves Ames. Attended the University of Chicago and graduated from Central YMCA College in downtown Chicago. Started to work for U.S. Steel Corp.in 1931 retiring after 40 years of service. Member of the William D. McIlroy Lodge 758 A.F. & A.M. and the Shrine in Pittsburgh, PA., the United Methodist Church of Batavia and the Purchasing Agents Asso. of New York City. Preceded in death by his parents, and his wife, Elizabeth Barrowman Ames in 7/1986. They had been married 53 years. Burial in Yegua Creek Church Cemetery. She was BORN 1/10/1902 in Clinton, IL. to M/M James Adcock. She was a member of the Christian Church. Preceded in death by a daughter and son. ANDREWS, Mattie, Mrs., of Rockdale and Houston. Age 81. Died 4/22/1977 Friday. Services held (Monday) in Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home, Rockdale. Burial in Oaklawn Cemetery, Rockdale. BORN 4/10/1896, she was the daughter of the late M/M. J.A. Clark. Her husband, George M. Andrews died in 1965. ANNESS, Leah W. of San Gabriel. Age 90. Died 9/30/1981 (Wed.) in Johns Community Hospital in Taylor after a short illness. Services held 10/02 (Friday) in San Gabriel Christian Church. Burial in the nearby Locklin Cemetery. Rev. John Roark, pastor of San Gabriel Baptist Church, officiated. Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home of Rockdale in charge of arrangements. BORN 3/14/1891 at San Gabriel, she was the daughter of the late James & Mattie Orr Clark. She married Alfred A. Anness in 1915 in San Gabriel. Mr. Anness preceded her in death in 2/1977, also, a daughter, Dorothy Worley, died on 9/5/1980. ANSLEY, Ethel of Ridge. Age 93. Died 7/15/1982 (Thursday). Services held 7/17 (Sat.) at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home Chapel in Franklin. Burial in Holly Cemetery, Ridge, TX. BORN 12/20/1889. Until 6 months before her death she lived alone, did all her own housework, cooked on a wood stove and split her own firewood. The 6 eldest grandsons were pallbearers and the remaining grandsons and grandsons-in-law were named as honorary pallbearers. SURVIVORS: Sons, Charles of Magnolia and Buddy of Thorndale; 4 daughters, Bett Withers of Freeport, Alma Withers of Houston, Mary Fling of Evadale, Bernice Swarthout of Houston; 37 grandchildren; 62 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren. ANSLEY, L. J. [Lieda Jacob] of Brookside. Age n/k. Died 6/21/1982, Harris Co., TX. Buried in Brookside. BORN 11/9/1912. Mrs. Pat Ansley and daughter, Mrs. Diane Finch and Jared, where in Houston Thursday to attend the funeral of Buddy Ansley's brother. SS Death Benefit # 465-24-1662.

*ANTHIS, Martha H., Mrs. of El Campo. Age 75. Died 2/2/1932 (Tuesday) (in Rockdale Reporter 2/11/193232) at her home in El Campo. The body was brought to the home of W.W. Kyle, only brother of the deceased on Wed. morning. Services held Wed. afternoon at the Christian Church. Burial in Forest Grove Cemetery beside her husband, Frank Anthis. Rev. Joel B. Hardigree, Cameron Christian Church, officiated. She was BORN 1851/1852 in Linneus, Linn Co., MO. Came to Texas as a young girl. Married Frank Anthis in 1880 and they made their home in the Tracy Comm. until Mr. Anthis' death. Mrs. Anthis lived in the Forest Grove Comm. for a number of years before following the older children to El Campo. Of the 8 living children only 6 were present for the funeral. SURVIVORS: Mrs. Grace Overman, Kyle and John Anthis of El Campo; Mrs. Susie Workman and Mrs. Edna Bowman of Tucson, AZ.; Harley Anthis, Phoenix, AZ.; Mrs. Lizzie Denton, Los Angeles, CA. and 1 son, Abner, of Tucson, AZ. were unable to attend. Other relatives from El Campo were Robert Overman, Frank O'Bier, and sister, Jewel, Mrs. Nellie Thurman and the girl who cared for Mrs. Anthis, Miss Roberta. (*2)

ANTHIS, William F., Jr. (Bill), of Rockdale. Age 63. Died 3/24/1989, Friday after a sudden illness. Services held 3/28/1989 at Phillips & Luckey Chapel, Rockdale. Burial in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Rockdale. Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. He was BORN 12/12/1925 near Tanglewood to M/M William F. (Florence Idel Whited) Anthis, Sr. He retired as a heavy equipment operator for pipeline construction. He served in the U.S.Navy in WW-2 and enlisted in the U.S.Army after the war. Member of Local 450, Operator Engineers, in Houston. Preceding him in death were 3 brothers and a step-daughter. SURVIVORS: Special Friend, Martha Karl of Rockdale; 5 step-sons, Joe and John Clifton of Livingston; Arvin, Wayne and Steven Jones, all of Rockdale; 2 daughters, Elizabeth McGrath, of Great Falls, MT.; Rebecca Ann Anthis of Rockdale; brother, J.T. Anthis, Rockdale; 3 sisters, Vivian Mae Broadnax, Rockdale, Vera Lee Doss, Houston, Mildred Houston of Hearne; 1 grandchild and 13 step-grandchildren. First wife, Bernice Baker of Livingston. APPEL, Anna, Mrs. (C. J.) of Brenham. Age 87. Died 11/6/1985 (Wednesday). Services held 11/9 at Grace Lutheran Church in Brenham. Burial in Prairie Lea Cemetery, Brenham. Rev. Walter Dube officiated. BORN on 7/18/1898. She was the widow of Rev. C.J. Appel who pastured churches in Orange, William Penn and Noack. SURVIVORS: Sons, Rev. Vernon M. Appel, pastor of St.Paul's Lutheran Church, Thorndale, Carl Appel of Odessa; 2 daughters, Dorothy Appel of LaMarque and Ruth Ross of Houston. Grandsons were pallbearers. APPEL, Carl J., Rev. of Brenham. Age 70. Died 2/8/1970 (Sunday) (in paper 2/12/70) in a Brenham hospital following a series of heart attacks. Services held (Tuesday) from the Grace Lutheran Church in Brenham. Burial in Prairie Lea Cemetery, Brenham. Rev. Jon Siemagluaz, pastor of the church, officiated. He was BORN 10/10/1899 and was the pastor of the Christ Lutheran Church at Noack from 1950 to 1963. Retired from active ministry and was making his home in Brenham. He preceded her in death in 1983, also 2 brothers and a sister. She was a secretary for 25 years, both for Taylor Housing Authority and for TU Electric. Member of First Presbyterian Church. ARLDT, Carl E. of "The Grove" Community. Age 71. Died 10/3/1972, Bell Co., TX, (Tuesday) at his home after a lengthy illness. Services held (Wed.) 10/4 at The Grove Lutheran Church. Burial in the Lutheran Cemetery at The Grove. Rev. William Remmert officiated. Harper-Talasek Funeral Home of Temple, in charge of arrangements. He was BORN 1/7/1901 in Lee County, the son of Ernest & Annie Arldt. He moved to The Grove in 1920, member of the above church and was active in the work of his church until illness curtailed his activities. SURVIVORS: Wife; 5 daughters, Mrs. Rhylan (Irene) Schneider of Thorndale, Mrs. Walter (Florence) Teinert of Midland, Mrs. Walton (Caroline) Fuessel of Irving, Mrs. Gene (Viola) Patschke of Pearland and Mrs. Reginald Geistman of Austin; 2 sons, Elmer Arldt of Temple and W. She was BORN 10/03/1906 in Walburg to M/M John Hanusch & Marie Bethke. She married Alvin G. Arldt on 11/20/1927 at Zion Lutheran Church. Her husband, Alvin, preceded her in death on 2/17/1978. SURVIVORS: Son, Earl of Georgetown; 5 daughters, Susie Roeglin of Hutto, Gracie Winkler and Mamie Mersiousky, both of Temple, Wyona Hubbard of Austin, Annie Meinardus of Thorndale; 3 brothers, Walter Hanusch of Eden, John Hanusch of Georgetown, Alvin Hanusch of Hutto; 2 sisters, Ella Farrack of Georgetown and Wanda Hanusch of Austin; 16 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren.

ARDLT, Lillie, Mrs., of "The Grove" Community. Age 71. Died 8/25/1982 (Wed.) at the home of a son in Moffat. Services held 8/28 at St. Paul Lutheran Church of The Grove. Burial in St. Paul Cemetery. Sheffield Funeral Home of Temple in charge of arrangements. She was BORN c.1911 near The Grove to M/M August & Lena Winkler Richter. She married Charlie Arldt on 11/18/1928. They ran a farm/ranch near The Grove until his death in 1972. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of The Grove. SURVIVORS: 2 sons, Elmer of Moffat and Lloyd Ardlt of Waco; 5 daughters, Florence Teinert, Midland; Caroline Fuessel, Irving; Viola Patschke, Pearland; Adeline Geistman, Round Rock; Irene (Mrs. Rhylan) Schneider of Thorndale; 2 sisters, Frieda Richter and Lydia Winkler, both of The Grove; 10 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren.

ARLEDGE, Roy Breen of Fort Worth. Age 73. Died 3/31/1990 in St. Joseph's Hospital in Ft. Worth. Services held 4/03 at Normandale Baptist Church, Ft. Worth. Burial in Laurel Land Memorial Park. Rev. Walter F. Reid and Dr. Paul E. Miller officiated. He was BORN 8/27/1916 in Montgomery County and graduated from Maynard High School. He worked at the Santa Fe Hospital in Temple before moving to Ft. Worth, in 1943. He worked at General Dynamics in Ft. Worth, retiring 1/26/1979 after 36 years. He was a member of the Normandale Baptist Church and coached a softball team for many years. His wife, Virginia preceded him in death. Memorials to be made to Leukemia Society or blood donations to Carter Blood Center in Ft.Worth. SURVIVORS: Son, Bobby B. Arledge of Burleson; daughter, Paula K. Eagleton of Ft. Worth; 5 grandchildren; brother, Conrad Arledge of Taylor; 3 sisters, Shirley Conley, Thorndale, Dartha Dickinson of Jourdanton and Grace Schroeder of Austin. ARMSTRONG, Madie L., Mrs. of Rockdale. Age 91. Died 1/20/1973 (Sat.) at Boswell Nursing Home, Rockdale (Milam Co., TX), after an illness of a year. Services held (Monday) at Phillips & Luckey Chapel, Rockdale. Burial in IOOF Cemetery, Rockdale. Rev. Stewart Bell, pastor of St. John's United Methodist Church and Rev. Timothy Griffin, pastor of First Christian Church officiated. She spent most of her life in Rockdale. She was BORN in Alabama on 2/18/1882 and came to Milam Co. with her parents, M/M Daniel N. Yarbrough settling in Sharp Community. She married John C. Armstrong on 4/29/1900. Her husband preceded her in death on 8/9/1961, also an infant son. She was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church and her membership was with St. John's United Methodist Church, Rockdale. SURVIVORS: 2 sons, Roy of Temple and Jake of Rockdale; 2 daughters, Mrs. Robert Lee Bounds and Mrs. Henry Tyler of Rockdale; 2 sisters, Lena Sprinkle of Alabama and Dana S. Schultz of Oklahoma; 9 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

ARRINGTON, Florence of Granger. Age 95. Died 1/06/1983 (Thursday) in a Taylor hospital. Services held 1/09 at Condra Memorial Chapel in Taylor. Burial in Taylor City Cemetery with nephew, Dr. Joe W. Bailey and Rev. Rick Smith officiating. BORN 4/18/1887, she was the former Florence Newton. Her husband had drug store in Thrall. Later moved to Granger and opened Arrington Drug Store. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Granger. SURVIVORS: 2 daughters, Mrs. K.E. (Louise) Birkelback of Granger and Hazel Hatfield of Waco; 2 sons, Dr. James M. Arrington, Midland, Robert N. Arrington of Houston; sister, Mrs. L.G. (Nell) Butts of Thorndale; 9 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren. SS Death Benefit #454-52-2813.

ARRINGTON, Wilson Edward of Rockdale. Age 44. Died 8/12/1972 (Sat.) in an Austin hospital were he had been for 26 days. He was in ill health for several months. Services held (Monday) at Phillips & Luckey Chapel, Rockdale. Burial in Oak Lawn Cemetery. James Miller, the Church of Christ minister of Rockdale, officiated. He was BORN on 4/16/1928 in Bay City to M/M Joel Arrington. Lived in Rockdale for 18 years, working at IGC (TU Electric). Married Nelda Beth Wilhite in Belton on 9/9/1950. Father (Joel) preceded him in death on 7/21/1972 due to a heart attack. SURVIVORS: Wife, Nelda of Rockdale; mother, Mrs Joel Arrington; daughters, Maleen and Martha, both of Rockdale. Dwaine Shawver officiated. BORN 2/20/1925, in Pt.Lavaca to James Arthur and Carrie (Ingram) Ashmore. He retired from the USAF. Was employed as an Electrician most of his life. They lived in Beaukiss about 10 years. Member of Faith Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a brother and 2 sisters. She was a telephone operator for 20 Years. Preceded in death by her parents, A.D. and Josephine Poole, also by 4 brothers and 2 sisters. She was a member of the Landmark Missionary Baptist Church.
