(Burial not listed) He was BORN 1/11/1897 and reared in the Pleasant Hill Comm. and lived in that area for several years, before moving to Round Rock. He was a member of Methodist Church. BARBER, Callie, Mrs., of Rockdale. Age 86. Died 10/17/1987 (Saturday) in a Rockdale Nursing Home. Graveside services held (Tuesday) in the Taylor City Cemetery. Jim Platt officiated. Phillips & Luckey of Rockdale in charge of arrangements. She was a former resident of the Conoley Community before moving to Rockdale. Her parents were Hiram Ray and Alice Jenette Scott. She married 11/1/1920 in Elgin to Henry Barber, who preceded her in death 6/20/1975. SURVIVORS: 2 daughters, Lula Mae Scott of Florence and Florine Brown of LaHabra, CA.; sister, Clara Young of Conroe; 4 grandchildren. 4 great-grandchildren.

She later was with Leger Lingerie Shop. Preceded in death by husband, Claude Barber in 1967. SURVIVORS: Daughter/husband, Kathy & Don V. BARBER, Henry of Thorndale & Rockdale. Age 80. Died 6/20/1975 (Friday) very suddenly in Richards Memorial Hospital. Services held in the Phillips & Luckey Chapel, Rockdale. Burial in Taylor City Cemetery. Rev. Matt Chambers of St. John's United Methodist Church, Rockdale, officiated. He had been a resident of Rockdale for about 6 months after moving from Thorndale. BORN near Rockdale on 5/6/1895 to M/M. Joseph W. Barber. Married 11/1/1921 to Miss Callie Scott in Elgin. He was a farmer and rancher. Preceded in death by one daughter, Mildred Barber in 1944. BARCHENGER, Christopher George of Thorndale. Age 98. Died 9/8/1989 (Friday) at Sweetbriar Rest Home, Taylor. Services held 9/11 (Monday) from St.John Lutheran Church. Burial in church cemetery. Rev. Walter Miller officiated. He was BORN 2/24/1891 in Lake Henry, Minnesota, to William and Johanna (Faust) Barchenger. Lived in Thorndale for 65 years. Graduated in 1910 from Addison Lutheran Seminary in River Forest, IL., now Concordia College. Retired as a parochial school teacher, having taught at St.Paul Lutheran School in Thorndale from 1924 to 1952. Member of above church in Thorndale. Preceded in death by first wife, Sophia Schroeder Barchenger in 1930; by second wife, Clara Reuffer Barchenger in 1979; 5 sons, 1 daughter, 2 grandchildren, 4 brothers; 5 sisters. SURVIVORS: Daughter, Alice Mae King of Youngsport; 3 sons, Bruno Barchenger of Round Rock, Amos of Burnet and Oray of Houston; 24 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren.

BARCHENGER, Mary, Mrs. (Bruno) of Bryan. Age (?). Died 8/30/1972 in a Pearland hospital after a brief illness. Services held 9/1/1972 (Friday) in Bryan. Burial in Rest-Ever Cemetery near Bryan. Rev. R.A. Hobus of Friendswood and Rev. G.H. Albers of Bryan officiated. SURVIVORS mentioned: M/M C.G. Barchenger and Mrs. Ida Edwards of Rockdale attended the funeral of their daughter-in-law. BARCHENGER, Peggy, Mrs., of Denver, CO. Age (?). Died 2/8/1971. Services held 2/11/1971 (Thursday) at the Fairmont Mortuary and Cemetery in Denver, CO. She was the widow of Victor Barchenger (see below) SURVIVORS: 2 sons, George & Jon Barshenger; sister-in-law to C.G. Barchenger of Thorndale.

BARCHENGER, Victor of Denver, CO. Age (?). Died 12/7/1944 in a plane crash while on a test flight at Drew Field, FL. Body was taken to Denver, CO. where burial was held on 12/12/1944. SURVIVORS: Wife and child, father, C.F. Barchenger of Thorndale; sister and 5 brothers. All of his brothers were in the armed forces.

BARCUS, John M., Jr., of Austin. Age 55. Died 7/4/1959 (Saturday) in an Austin hospital. Services held (Tuesday) at University Methodist Church in Austin. Burial in Memorial Park. Rev. J.W. He attended Southwestern University through the years 1922-1926. Taught school in Thorndale in 1926-1927. He was a member of University Methodist Church, State Bar Association, legal counsel for Texas Employment Commission and was an ex-student of Southwestern University and Cumberland University. Rev. John M. Barcus, Sr. and family resided in Georgetown at one time when he served as presiding elder of the Georgetown District of the Methodist Church. BARDEN, J. D. of Dallas. Age 80. Died ?/1974 (Tuesday) in Parkland Hospital, Dallas. Services held (Friday) in Sparkman-Hillcrest Chapel. He was the brother of Mrs. F.J. Blackman. Mr. Barden was a Baptist and had been reared in the Hutto Community. SURVIVORS: Wife; son; 2 granddaughters; and 2 sisters, Mrs. Lewis Hardy of Broaddus and Mrs. F.J. Blackman of Thorndale.

BARGFREDE, Mary, Mrs., of Missouri & Thorndale. Age 76. Died 1/28/1978 at her home in Alma, Missouri. Services were held at Trinity Lutheran Church, Alma, MO. (Cemetery omitted) Rev. H. Kurth, her pastor, officiated. Mary Caroline Bargfrede was BORN 3/11/1892 in Dover, MO. She married Henry F. Bargfrede, Sr. on 2/14/1912 in Corder, MO. She was preceded in death by her husband on 6/16/1960 and by 2 sons who gave their lives for their country, Henry Bargfrede, Jr. during WW-2 and Edward Bargfrede during the Korean conflict; also a grandchild, Mary Ann Bargfrede. Malcolm Riker officiated. BORN 8/13/1913. He was retired rural mail carrier. Veteran of WW-2. Member of St. James Episcopal Church. Director of the Thorndale State Bank. Honorary member of the Thorndale Fire Dept. Served on the school board for 25 years and for 20 years on the Selective Service System of Milam Co. SURVIVORS: Wife, Mrs. Kathryne Barnes of Thorndale; 2 sons, Lyngle D. Barnes, III and Joe B. Barnes of Arlington; 3 grandchildren. The Thorndale State Bank on 12/19/1985 passed a resolution in memory of Mr. Barnes. Burial in family plot of the Thorndale City Cemetery. The Rev. W. A. Tober officiated. Condra Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. He was in the drug-store business since 1904. BORN 1/20/1889 in Oakville. Married Miss Sarah Evelyn Summerlin on 9/8/1912. He was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge of Thorndale and a director of the Thorndale State Bank. He was preceded in death by a son, Blake S. Barnes and 6 brothers. SURVIVORS: Wife, Sarah; son, Lyngle D. Mrs. Lucy Schraie (Sahraie), a niece of Austin, gave the eulogy. Sarah was BORN 12/14/1891 to the late Giles S. and Lucy Peebles Summerlin. Lived in Thorndale for the past 76 years. Married Lyngle D. He was the older brother of the late Lyngle D. Barnes, Sr. of Thorndale and had visited his brother many times in Thorndale. BARRATACHEA, Tiburcio of Thorndale. Age 85. Died 4/21/1986 (Monday) at his home. Services pending at Condra Funeral Home in Taylor. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and was retired from Missouri-Pacific Railroad with 55 years of service. He had lived in Thorndale for the past 65 years. Grandsons served as pallbearers. BORN 6/6/1915 at Rice's Crossing, but was reared and received his schooling at San Gabriel. Married 11/28/1936 to Miss Mabel Westerman. He was a long time resident of Thorndale and a prominent businessman. He and his wife moved to Cedar Creek in 1968 where they resided at the time of his death. Employed by John Roberts, Inc. of Austin in maintenance work and a member of the First Baptist Church of Bastrop. Preceded in death by 2 sons, Donald Kenneth and Leon W. (Bebe) Barron. SURVIVORS: Wife, Mabel of Cedar Creek; daughter, Mrs. Marvin (Nancy) Heleman of Austin; son Elton Ray Barron of Cedar Creek; brother, Noel T. BARRON, Leon Warren (Bebe) of Thorndale & Cedar Creek. Age 25. Died 7/15/1966 (in paper 7/21/66) "He became ill early "this" spring and was hospitalized at Brackenridge hospital where everything humanly possible to alleviate his suffering was done". Services held (Sunday) at the Condra Memorial Chapel, Taylor. Burial in Taylor City Cemetery. Rev. Larry Gilbert pastor of First Baptist Church, Thorndale officiated assisted by Rev. R.J. Cooper of Chilton. Condra Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements. He was lovingly nicknamed 'Bebe', son of Horace and Mabel Westerman Barron. BORN 8/4/1940 in San Gabriel, moved with his parents, older brother and sister to Thorndale during his infancy. Reared in Thorndale, received his education in the Thorndale Public Schools. He joined First Baptist Church early in his teens and served wherever he was needed. Married Miss Judy Newman 4/6/1963. Employed by Alcoa. He and wife purchased their own home at 308 S. Second Street a few weeks prior to his illness. Active member of the Thorndale Volunteer Fire Department. He was preceded in death by younger brother, Donald Kent Barron. "Mom" as she was known, was a member of the Thorndale Baptist Church. She and her late husband, a retired farmer, moved to Thorndale in 1948 from the San Gabriel Comm. where they had resided for more than 30 years. He married Miss Clara Moore 6/23/1923 and moved to Houston in 1942. He was the son of M/M Carl Barron, who preceded him in death as did a brother, Horace. After 25 years with the Metal Goods, Inc. he retired in 1970. BARRY, Sandra Kay (Sandy) of Houston. Age 17. Died 3/29/1978. Services were held in Houston's Rosewood Cemetery. Sandy was killed when a clothes dryer apparently exploded in the garage of the Barry home. She was sitting on the washer, waiting for a load of towels to finish washing, so she could put them into the dryer when the explosion occurred. Harris County deputies said the garage was immediately engulfed in flames. BORN c.1961, she was a high school senior; played volleyball, softball, track, basketball and was considered a star at Houston's MacArthur High School and had been hoping to go to Sam Houston State University on a volleyball scholarship, family sources said. She was the niece of Helen Kopecky of Rockdale.

BARTLETT, Betty, Mrs., of Tucson, AZ. Age 56. Died 7/8/1978. Services were held in Tucson and graveside services were held in Levelland, TX. on 7/12/1978 (Wednesday). BORN c.1922, she was the sister of Mrs. Maxine Merkord who attended the services in Levelland.

BARTLETT, Clara and Morse of Thorndale & Houston. Ages: Clara-88; Morse-89. Clara was BORN 12/01/1897, DIED 1/25/1985; and Morse BORN 9/10/1896, DIED 1/31/1985. Morse suffered a broken hip in December 1984, but was home and apparently making normal recovery. Clara suffered a broken pelvic bone in January, 1985 and died on the 25th. Morse succumbed a week later on the 31st. SURVIVORS: 2 children, Barbara Nell Bartlett Walker of Houston and Bobby Joe Bartlett of Humble; 5 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren. BORN 1/5/1896 in Ransey, IL., came to Texas with his parents when only 2 years old. His parents were the late M/M J.P. Bartlett. He was a retired farmer and rancher. Veteran of WW-1. Member of the Apostolic Faith Church in Rockdale. Married Miss Adel Ruth Baird on 6/26/1922 at Waco. A daughter, Mrs. Bettie J. Robbins preceded him in death on 12/26/1964.
