Burial in Milano Cemetery. Rev. N.A. Mills, pastor of Meadowbrook Baptist Church of Rockdale, officiated. He was BORN 1/8/1903 in Gay Hill Comm. west of Rockdale all of his life. He was the son of M/M. Joseph Brown. Married Gussie Smith on 1/11/1939 in Cameron. BROWN, Bertha of Rockdale & Houston. Age 86. Died 1/12/1984 (Thursday) in a Houston Nursing Home. Services held (Saturday) in Phillips & Luckey Chapel in Rockdale. Burial in Salty Cemetery. Rev. George Doss officiated. BORN 3/10/1897. Married 1918 to Walter L. Brown. She was preceded in death by 3 sons. SURVIVORS: Husband, Walter L. Brown of Houston; son, Ryndol Brown of Houston; 2 daughters, Moxelle Daniels of Houston and Ruby Stubbs of Austin; 2 brothers, Garland Caffey and J.E. BROWN, Mrs. Bessie of Taylor. Age 93. Died 7/9/1987 (Thursday) in a Temple hospital. Services held (Tuesday) at Mt.Calvary Missionary Baptist Church. Revs. R.L. Perry and N.E. Palmer officiated. (No Burial location stated). She was BORN 1884 in Thrall and had been a lifetime resident of Taylor. SURVIVORS: 2 brothers, Clifford Mays of Taylor and Dan Mays of San Mateo, CA.; grandson of Brady.

BROWN, Billy Charles of Waco. Age 15. Died ?/1948 (Sunday) after being injured near his home in Waco when he was struck by an automobile while riding a Motor Scooter with a friend. He received a fractured skull from which he never regained conciousness. Burial in Waco on Monday. He was the son of M/M. Willie Brown, formerly of Thorndale and Thrall and a nephew of Mrs. Albert Rosenthal of Thorndale.

BROWN, Dr. Charles Thomas of San Antonio. Age 76. Died 9/17/1982 (Friday). Graveside services were held (Tuesday) in the City Cemetery in San Marcos. BORN 6/27/1906. He was a retired Lieutenant Colonel of the U.S. Army during WW-2. Survivor of the Bataan Death March. Prisoner of the Japanese for 3-1/2 years, recipient of many citations and decorations. Member of innumerable medical organizations, and the author of numerous medical and psychiatric articles both here and abroad. SURVIVORS: Wife, Katie Belle Lee Brown (who was reared in Thorndale); daughter, Kay Lee Gunn of Dallas; 3 grandchildren. SS Death Benefit on #514-44-0040.

BROWN, Clarence Edward of Rockdale. Age 64. Died 5/14/1987 in Richards Memorial Hospital. Services held (Sat.) in New Hope Baptist Church. Burial in New Oak Lawn Cemetery in Rockdale. He was BORN 2/24/1923 in Buffalo to the late Fred and Berda Holly Brown. Former resident of Bryan and Rockdale resident for 24 years. Married Alline Embra on 1/20/1950 in Bryan. He was a disabled veteran of WW-2, serving in the Army. Drove a truck for the city of Rockdale. Member of New Hope Baptist Church. SURVIVORS: Wife of Rockdale; 5 sons, John L. BROWN, Dewey H. of Thrall. Age 74. Died 4/14/1984 (Tuesday). Services held (Friday) at Condra Memorial Chapel. Burial in Taylor City Cemetery. Rev. Marc Childress officiated. BORN 3/20/1910. He was a retired teacher, coach and principal with 39 years standing and had lived in Thrall for the past 36 years. Member of the Thrall United Methodist Church and the Masonic Lodge Post Oak Island 181. Earned a B.S. degree from Centennary University in 1934 and a M.A. degree from Sol Ross in 1940. He was owner of the Man-Maker Football Machine Co. and was active in community and church affairs. BROWN, Miss Emma of Thorndale & Sherman. Age 87. Died 8/4/1971 in a Sherman hospital (Wednesday). Services held 8/6/1971 (Friday) at the Moore Funeral Chapel, Arlington. Burial in Parkdale Cemetery. Dr. Jack Payne, pastor of Arlington's First Methodist Church officiated. Pallbearers were nephews. "Miss Emma" as friends here knew her, was BORN 10/13/1883 in Thorndale. She was a member of the First Methodist Church, Arlington for 34 years before moving to Sherman to the Woodman Circle Home. Among her survivors is a cousin, E.G. Stiles of Thorndale. BROWN, Ernest Cullen of Sharp Community. Age 72. Died 12/1966 Thursday at his home. Services held at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Chapel. Burial in the Oak Lawn Cemetery, Rockdale. BORN 12/02/1894. BROWN, Ernest H. of Rockdale. Age 85. Died 0/1987 (Monday) in Brackenridge Hospital, Austin. Services held (Wed.) in Phillips & Luckey Chapel. Burial in Hugh Wilson Cemetery, Tanglewood. Rev. O.A. Taylor officiated. He was BORN 11/8/1901 in Lee County to M/M. Frank Daniel and Mollie Olear Pricer Brown. Married Nancy Gertrude Caffey on 11/11/1932 in San Gabriel. He was a retired employee of Ameida Oil Company and lived in Houston from 1938-1967. Member of First Baptist Church of Rockdale and was a 50-year member of Masonic Lodge 414 which conducted graveside services. Preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Gertrude Brown on 7/17/1986; daughter, Erna Lafaye Brown in 1953; brother, Hervy Elbert Brown in 1966. BROWN, Frank B. of Thorndale Area. Age 89. Died ?/1978. Services held (Sunday) from San Gabriel Baptist Church. Burial in Thorndale City Cemetery. Rev. Norman Wilcoxen of Austin, assisted by Rev. William Parmer, pastor of the San Gabriel Baptist Church and Rev. Hal Dungan, pastor of the San Gabriel Christian Church, officiated. Marek-Burns Funeral Home of Cameron in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were the following grandsons: Duane, Cullen and Larry Gambel, Harold Brown, Moel Sissom and James Gibbons. Honorary pallbearers were Harry O. Clark, W.T. Johnson, Joe Yeager, V.L. Angell and O.N. Baldridge. He was BORN 10/15/1871 at Monticello, KY. He came to Texas in 1889 and had lived in and around Thorndale since that time. Married Miss Sallie Slaughter of Shiloh Community on 7/22/1900. Mr. Brown had been a member of the Baptist Church since early manhood. He was a good man who walked close to his God daily. He was a good neighbor, a faithful companion and a loving father who has left his children a very priceless heritage. Preceded in death by 3 sons. SURVIVORS: Wife, Sallie; 4 daughters, Mrs. Harry O. Clark of San Gabriel, Mrs. C.G. Gibbons and Mrs. Larry Groth, both of San Antonio, and Mrs. T.D. Sissom of Freeport; 3 sons, G.A. Brown of San Antonio, W.C. BROWN, Mrs. Gussie of Milano & Rockdale. Age 60. Died 10/1977 (Friday) in Rockdale Nursing Home after a 21-year illness. Services held (Sunday) in the Phillips & Luckey Chapel. Burial in Milano City Cemetery. Revs. Joe Dan Franklin and D.D. Simpson officiated. She was BORN 4/25/1917 in Milano to M/M. William Alfred Smith. Married Albert Brown in 1939 in Cameron. Preceded in death by husband in 1973, also parents and 3 brothers. SURVIVORS: Son, Billy Joe Brown of Rockdale; sister, Mrs. Annie Mae Smith of Milano; 3 grandchildren. BROWN, Johnnie M. of Thorndale & Sinton. Age 48. Died 2/18/1960 in his sleep Wednesday night after suffering a heart attack. Services were held Friday at the First Baptist Church in Sinton. Burial in Sinton Cemetery with graveside services by the Sinton Masonic Lodge 1012 AF & AM. Rev. Leon Vorphal officiated. Starbuck Funeral Home directed the services. He was a newsman for 30 years. Mr. Brown was BORN in the Sharp Community, Milam Co. and attended high school in Thorndale, graduating with the class of 1930. He earned a degree in journalism from Baylor University. Before starting the Sinton Enterprise as a weekly publication in 1950, he was for 10 years a roving South Texas reporter for the Caller-Times in Corpus Christi. Before then he worked for Waco papers and during WW-2 was a war correspondent. He was active in civic and fraternal affairs, was president of Sinton Chamber of Commerce and a worshipful master of the Masonic Lodge. He was a member of the Texas Press Asso. and Texas Gulf Coast Press Asso. June 1950 he resigned from the Caller-Times to start publication of San Patricio County second weekly newspaper in association with another former Caller-Times employee, Robert Dunkerley. He bought out Dunkerley's interest a year later. His wife, Faye, assisted him in publication of the paper and management of a commercial printing business. SURVIVORS: Wife, Faye; mother, Mrs. John Sippley of Cameron; 2 brothers, Henry Brown of Waco and Charles Brown of Brady. They had no children.

BROWN, Leonard E. of Thorndale & San Antonio. Age 77. Died 7/18/1982 (Sunday) in San Antonio. Services held 7/20/1982 (Tuesday) in Mission Park Funeral Chapel, San Antonio. Burial in Mission Burial Park South. Rev. Clint Robb officiated. He was a native Thorndalian, BORN 6/16/1905, and had lived in San Antonio for the past 40 years. Member of the Hermann Sons Alamo Lodge No.169. SURVIVORS: Wife, Lois Jackson Brown and son, Bobby Brown, both of San Antonio; 2 sisters, Mrs. Villa Lankford and Mrs. Mable Criddle, both of Austin; brother, W.J. BROWN, Linda of Cameron. Age 21. Died 4/11/1982 when she fell from an automobile. Her body was found in a ditch off FM 1600, 5 miles south of Cameron. She was BORN 7/27/1960. No other details available. SS Death Benefits on #457-21-6117.

She was BORN 4/29/1931 in Lee County to M/M. Jim (Deewilla) Brown. She was employed in the health care service field. BROWN, Marcella Lee of Indianapolis, IN. Age 55. Died 4/10/1988 in an Indianapolis nursing home. Services held 4/13 in Conkel Funeral Home, Indianapolis, IN. She was BORN 2/16/1933 to M/M. Douglas and Ethel Crist. Married Thomas Loring Brown on 1/1/1950. She was a former resident of Rockdale and had resided in Indianapolis for 9 years. Memorials to Milam Co. BROWN, Marie H. of the Sharp Community. Age 81. Died 8/27/1988 (Sat.) at Crestview Manor Nursing Home, Belton, after a lengthy illness. Services held (Monday) 8/29 in Peace Lutheran Church. Burial in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Rockdale. Rev. Herb Lammert of Peace Lutheran officiated. She was BORN 7/5/1907, in Missouri to M/M. William and Lena Von Gonten Hedden. Married E.C. Brown on 8/25/1923 in Cameron. Member of above church. Memorials to Alzheimers Disease Foundation. Preceded in death by husband, E.C. Brown on 12/1/1966. SURVIVORS: Son, W.E. BROWN, Jr., Marshall Davis of Gause. Age 10. Died ?/1976 (Tuesday) in a car-truck collision at 8:05 p.m., 2-1/2 miles east of Gause on US 190. He was a passenger in a car driven by his father. Investigating officer State trooper, Don Wardlow, said the youth was pinned in the wreckage for about an hour and was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Jim Swanzy of Milano. Also in the car were his parents, M/M Marshall D. Brown, Sr. and their 2 other children. All escaped injury as did the driver of the truck, Steven Paul Reynolds, 21 of Bryan. Reynolds was driving a National Linen Service truck out of Austin. Both vehicles were traveling east on US 190 and the car had stopped to make a left turn onto a county road. The car had apparently already begun its turn and was struck on the left side and from behind by the truck. The 3 children were in the rear seat and the 10-year old was pinned under the truck.

BROWN, Miss Merle of Rockdale. Age 79. Died 5/16/1990 (Wednesday) in Richards Memorial Hospital, Rockdale. Graveside funeral services held 5/17/1990 (Thursday) in Oak Lawn Cemetery. She was a lifelong resident of Rockdale. BORN 11/2/1910 in Collin County to M/M Eugene P. (Lottie Blankenship) Brown. Preceded in death by her parents and sister, Jessie Mae Jauchler on 12/31/1987. Survivors are not listed.

BROWN, Rev. Millard E. of Rockdale. Age 78. Died 11/1986 (Sat.) in Richards Memorial hospital after an extended illness. Graveside services held (Sunday) in IOOF Cemetery, Rockdale. Rev. N.A. Mills officiated, assisted by Revs. Donald Box and Bruce Williamson. He was BORN 12/8/1907 near Lowell, AR. to M/M. Jeff D. and Martha Ann Courtney Brown. Married Esther L. Johnson on 6/20/1937 in Nevada, MO. He was a Rockdale resident for 40 years. Rev. Brown was a minister for 60 years, including 22 years as an evangelist, 35 as pastor and 3 additional years doing part-time ministry after his retirement. He was pastor of Apostolic Faith Church in Rockdale and founder and pastor for 26 years of Full Gospel Chapel. At the time of death he was a member of First Baptist Church. Preceded in death by 4 brothers, Grover, Jeff, Earl and Clarence Brown and 2 sisters, Mell Worthy and Floy Brown. Memorials to Alzheimers Research Foundation. "Troy had numerous friends in the community and when working for others, he did an excellent job. He was devoted to his children and worked to give them every advantage. His word was his bond, and many will miss his faithful services". Member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Preceded in death by a sister.
