Phillips & Luckey in charge of arrangements. He had been a Rockdale resident for the past 6 years. BORN 7/1/1921 in Galveston. He was retired from Lone Star Distributing Co. Former member of International Longshoreman's Asso. of Galveston. Married Cora Jaminez in 1943 in Galveston. He was a veteran of WW-2. Member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6525, Rockdale. CAFFEY, Billy Earl of Sharp Community. Age 10. Died ?/1959 (Sunday) on the family farm in the Sharp Comm. Services held at Phillips & Luckey Chapel, Rockdale. Burial in IOOF Cemetery, Rockdale. Rev. N.A. Wilcoxsen of San Gabriel, Rev. Eugene Browder of Minerva and Rev. Roy C. Brewton of Rockdale officiated. He was BORN in 1948. Apparently the youngster was killed as he attempted to crank a tractor and it pinned him to the wall of a barn. His parents found him when they returned home from visiting. SURVIVORS: Parents, M/M. CAFFEY, Charles Napolean "Pollie" of Deer Park. Age 83. Died 10/12/1976 (in paper 10/21/1976) in a Deer Park Nursing Home after being in failing health for several weeks. Services held (Thursday) in Phillips & Luckey Chapel. Burial in Salty Cemetery. He was BORN 11/28/1892 to M/M. C.M. Caffey and was a former resident of Milam Co. Married Miss Nealie Harris on 9/20/1914 in Salty Comm. He retired as an oil field pumper. Lifelong member of the Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter. Mr. Caffey was in charge of the Salty Cemetery for many years. Member of Salty church. Preceded in death by father, Charles Monroe Caffey on 5/10/1940; mother, Ruthie Ann Caffey on 8/10/1953; son, Doyle Wayne Caffey on 1/3/1937; also 6 brothers and 4 sisters. Rev. D.D. Simpson officiated. She was BORN 11/19/1907 in Aquilla, the daughter of John R. and Berthal E. Terrell Gifford. Married Ralph Sanford Caffey on 6/28/1933 in Milam Co. She formerly lived in the Sharp area and lived in Rockdale for the past 20 yrs. Member of the First Baptist Church of Rockdale. Preceded in death by her husband in 1966. He was BORN 2/12/1901 to Sanford Nick and Lucy (Eiland) Caffey in the Gay Hill Comm., where he was reared and educated in the Gay Hill School. He was a farmer and ran the local domino hall. Married Alice Iona Reed in 1927 in Milam Co. Baptized in and was a member of Tracy Methodist Chruch before moving to Rockdale and becoming a member of the First Christian Church. Preceded in death by his wife on 1/3/1957; parents Sanford and Lucy Caffey; grandson, Timothy Gilleland; 10 brothers and sisters. CAFFEY, Sr., Hugh F. of Salty Community. Age 79. Died 4/1974 (Sunday) in Johns Community Hospital, Taylor, where he had been a patient for 19 days. Services held (Tuesday) in the Salty Community Church. Burial in the cemetery at Salty. Rev. Clyde Majors officiated. He was BORN 2/12/1895 in Milam Co. the son of M/M. Charles M. Caffey. He first married Ethel Jackson. One son was born. Ethel preceded him in death on 1/8/1948. He then married Hattie Tucker. He was a veteran of WW-1 and a lifeling member of the Methodist Church. 3 brothers and 2 sisters also preceded him in death. *CAFFEY, Lee Roy of Thorndale. Age 52. Died 1/18/1994 (Tuesday) in MD Anderson Hospital, Houston, of colon cancer. Services held at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan. Burial in Salty Comm. Cemetery, Milam Co. Rev. Chris Osborne, Central Baptist Church, officiated. "Football greats from near and far, friends from all walks of life were present for the funeral." He was BORN 6/3/1941 in Thorndale "Three fullbacks were recruited the same year by A&M; Lee Roy from Thorndale, Sam Byers from Marlin and Jerry Rogers for Corpus Christi Ray. All three died, far too young, of cancer." His decade-long career took him from Philadelphia to Green Bay to Dallas to San Diego. He was considered the fastest linebacker in the league during his prime with the Packers. Pallbearers were teammates and close friends, either at Green Bay or Texas A&M. Honorary pallbearers were all other former Green Bay Packer and Aggie teammates. A Lee Roy Caffey Memorial Scholarship Fund was established at Thorndale State Bank or memorials may be sent to Americn Cancer Society or Vince Lombardi Cancer Research Foundation. CAFFEY, Mrs. Leola of Thorndale. Age 67. Died 5/1981 (Sunday) in the hospital in Taylor, after being taken to the hospital on Sunday after an apparent heart attack. Services held (Tuesday) in the Phillips & Luckey Chapel in Rockdale. Burial in Salty Cemetery. Rev. George Doss and Rev. Reuel Cooper officiated. She was BORN 2/8/1914 to Lonnie and Evie Stephens in Salty Comm. and lived in this area all her life. Married Boyd Caffey on 3/16/1929. Husband, Boyd Caffey, preceded her in death, 12/15/1955, also her father, Lonnie Stephens. She was the nursery worker at First Baptist Church before she retired a few years ago. She was a member of the above church. CAFFEY, Mrs. Mammie (E.T.) of Thorndale. Age 70. Died 1969/70 (Friday) in a Rockdale hospital following a month's illness. Services held (Sunday) at Phillips & Luckey Chapel in Rockdale. Burial in family plot at Salty Cemetery. Rev. W.A. Tober, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiated. She was BORN 8/22/1899 near Thorndale to M/M. R.R. Catchings. Married Edd T. Caffey on 8/6/1916. Member of First Baptist Church, Thorndale and was active in her church until illness curtailed her activity. Preceded in death by son, Ned Kenneth, and 3 brothers, Guy, Boyd & Roy Catchings. CAFFEY, Mrs. Nettie of Waco. Age 90. Died 1/8/1976 (Thursday) (in paper 1/15/1976) in a Waco nursing home. Services held (Sat.) in Waco by her pastor. She was brought to Salty where last rites were read in the Salty Church by her pastor, Rev. Raymond Dunkin, officiating. Burial in Salty Cemetery. Kotch Funeral Directors of Waco and Phillips & Luckey, Rockdale, handled all arrangements. She was BORN 9/14/1885 in Rutledge, AL. Married T.A. Caffey on 12/29/1939. She lived for many years in Salty Comm. where she reared her family. She lived in Waco the past 21 years. Member of Bellmead First Baptist Church. SURVIVORS: Daughter, Mrs. Snowdie Pillans of Waco; son, W.H. Caffey of Broussard, LA.; step-daughter, Mrs. Bessie Parton of Thorndale; brother, S.L. Tucker of Temple; sister, Mrs. D.A. CAFFEY, Mrs. Rebecca Ellen of Salty Community. Age 85. Died ?/1937 (Sunday) at her home after a few days ilness, complicated by the infirmities of age. Services held (Monday) in Salty Church. Burial in Salty Cemetery. Rev. L.R. Stephens, pastor of Thorndale Baptist Church, officiated. Urban's were funeral directors. She was BORN 4/13/1852 in Montgomery County, Alabama. "She would have been 86 yrs. old had she lived until her next birthday." Married F.C. Caffey 2/13/1868. They came to Texas in 1874 and settled in Milam Co., where they lived until they were called to their eternal home. She united with the Christian Church as a young girl and remaining of that faith throughout her long eventful life. Preceded in death by her husband, 3 sons and a daughter. SURVIVORS: 3 sons, C.M. BORN 1/8/1910 in Lampasas to late M/M O.M. Callaway. Family moved to Rockdale area and settled in Gay Hill community. Spent childhood and early adult life in Rockdale area and later moved to Bryan. He was owner of cattle ranches at Hearne and Calvert. Co-owned with his son the Callaway Lumber Yard in Bryan. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Callaway on 2/21/1990. Also to precede him in death were his parents and his brothers, Wesley Callaway, Roy Callaway and Willis Elbert Callaway. She was BORN 1/21/1900 in New Boston to M/M. W.T. Sanders. Married John Alpha Callaway in 1921. She was the former Sally Mae Sanders who lived in Rockdale from 1906-1921. Lived in Layford and Raymondville for 55 years. Attended Minerva and Cattail schools from 1912-1919.
