He preceded her in death in 1928. Member of Pleasant Retreat Methodist Church for 75 years and had taught a class in the Sunday School for 57 years. "Aunt Ella" as she was called was a devoted Christian woman who dedicated her life for her church, her Sunday School and her fellowman. She had devoted much time and interest in the care of her church cemetery. CHANDLER, Eph M. of Thorndale. Age (?). Died 1/16/? (Thursday) at McClosky Hospital, Temple. Services held (Sat.) at First Baptist Church, Taylor. Rev. Lange, Chaplain of the hospital, conducted the service. Burial in the Taylor City Cemetery with the American Legion Post of Taylor in charge. BORN 12/30/1892 in McGregor, TX, he was the son of M/M T.K. Chandler. His childhood was spent in McGregor and Cameron. He became an oil mill superintendent in early manhood, being connected with the local mill for a number of years, retiring because of ill health. Married 9/6/1919 to Miss Katy Sue Hinds of Thorndale. They had 2 sons. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Thorndale. Veteran of WW-1; member of the American Legion Post No. 131 and Veterans of Foreign Wars No. 4009. For a period of 12 years he acted as commander of Thorndale American Legion post. He was never too busy, day or night, to assist a buddy who needed help. In 1945 Mr. Chandler was instrumental in organizing the veterans of Foreign Wars in Thorndale. SURVIVORS: Wife, Katy; sons, Kenneth and Wayne of Thorndale; parents, M/M. T.K. CHANDLER, John B. of Gause. Age 21. Died 10/25/1975 (Sunday) (in paper 10/30/75) in Richards Hospital following a head-on collision at the east end of Milano's railroad overpass on US 79 during a heavy rain resulting in 2 deaths and injuries to 3 other persons. He was a passenger in the 1969 Ford Ranchero driven by his brother, Billy Floyd Chandler, 25 of Gause, who was transferred to Scott & White Memorial Hospital in Temple, where he underwent surgery. Another person in the same vehicle was Charles W. Reese, 27, also of Gause, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The other car involved was a 1973 Chev. Monte Carlo driven by 55 yr. old John Henson and his wife, Doris, both of Palestine. Both were injured, but were in good condition. Services held 10/28/1975 at Gause Baptist Church. Burial in Gause Cemetery. U.S. Army unit from Ft.Hood conducted military graveside rites. Rev. Thomas Dusek officiated. Attended the New Salem school and after graduation she moved to San Antonio where she lived most of her life. Married Herbert Haecker in 1942 and they had 2 sons. Her first husband died in 1964. She married Andrew Christensen, Jr. on 4/5/1966. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in San Antonio and was a lifetime member of Woodmen of the World. She was BORN 7/18/1914 in Thorndale, to Bunnie Vick Brock and William Baskin Harkness, M.D. After her father died in 1918, she lived in Watson Branch Comm. when she moved to Thorndale to attend High School and graduated in 1931. After graduation she lived with her sister and attended business school in Beaumont. Returned to Thorndale and worked at Crystal Plant, The First National Bank and Thorndale Mercantile Co. Married Garth Christopher of Beaumont on 10/20/1935. They lived in Beaumont, Houston, Fannet, Tarkington's Prairie, Liberty and for more then 25 years in Boerne, TX. Celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1985 and Garth passed away in 1986. She worked as a secretary, bookkeeper and newspaper writer until retirement in 1979. Active in Kendall Co. Historic Soc., helped write a published history of the county. Member of the Major James Kerr Chapter of the DAR in Kerrville, member of the Kendall Co. Republican Women's Club and did volunteer work at the Kerrville Veteran's Hospital. CINNAMON, Sidney of Taylor. Age 89. Died 2/26/1988 (Friday) in a Temple hospital. Graveside services held (Monday) in the Hebrew Rest Cemetery in Waco with Rabbi Mordecai Podet officiating. BORN in Taylor 9/1/1898 to Mose and Hinda Finklestein Cinnamon, who immigrated to Taylor in the mid 1890's from Poland. Known as "Sig" to friends, he was a lifetime resident of the community and operated M. Cinnamon and Sons for 65 years, which began in partnership with his father and 2 brothers. A Veteran of WW-1 & WW-2. Member of Temple Rodef Sholom in Waco. A 32nd degree Mason and a Shriner. In 1982 he established four 4-year scholarships to be awarded annually to Taylor High School graduates. His civic interests included support of various projects including donations to Johns Community Hospital, the Taylor Public Library and Heritage Park.
