CRAVY, Henry Coulter of Rockdale. Age 78. Died 7/1983 (Sat.) in Richards Memorial Hospital following a long illness. Services held (Tuesday) in Phillips & Luckey Chapel in Rockdale. Burial in Sharp Cemetery. D.C. Drummond, Jr., of Full Gospel Church, Buckholts, officiated. He was BORN 8/5/1904 near San Gabriel, son of Daniel Lansford and Nina Crawford Cravy. He was a resident of Rockdale and lived in Milam Co. most of his life. Married Ruby Mae Reed on 9/16/1935 in Rockdale. Mr. Carvy was a retired newspaper man. He had worked as printer for the Rockdale Reporter, Elgin Courier and Luling News Boy and at one time was owner/editor of the Lexington Enterprise. He later worked with the San Marcos Record. Member of the Church of Christ. His hobby was gardening. 2 granddaughters preceded him in death. SURVIVORS: Wife, Ruby Mae Cravy of Rockdale; 2 sons, B.J. CRAVY, Ruby Mae of Rockdale & Texas City. Age 82. Died 9/10/1989 (Sunday) in Mainland Center Hospital, Texas City. Services held 9/14/1989 (Thursday) in Phillips & Luckey Chapel, Rockdale. Burial in Sharp Cemetery. Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. She was BORN 4/27/1907 in Milam County. Married Henry Coulter Cravy, 9/16/1935, in Rockdale, who was associated with the Thorndale Champion for many years in the late 1920's and early 30's. Preceded in death by husband on 7/9/1983; also by 2 granddaughters. SURVIVORS: 2 sons, B.J. Cravy of LaMarque and Lanny Eugene Cravy of Uvalde; 2 daughters, Helen Joy Hayes of Round Rock and Wanda Faye Stevens of Kaufman; 2 sisters, Ruth Brock of Rockdale and Juanita Drummond of Tracy.; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren. CRAWFORD, Ardell Ray of Lampasas. Age 55. Died 4/1977 (Thursday) (in paper 4/21/1977) in a Temple hospital after a long illness. Services held in St.Mary's Episcopal Church in Lampasas. Adkins Funeral Home, Lampasas, in charge of arrangements He was BORN 10/5/1921 and lived in Thorndale and attended schools in Thorndale between 1937-40, when his late father practiced medicine in the city. Family then moved to Bartlett where Dr. Crawford continued his practice. Ardell lived in Lampasas for the past 14 yrs. and was a pharmacist. Veteran of WW-2 and member of the Episcopal Church. She was a member of the Methodist Church having joined in early girlhood and very active in church affairs until her illness. CROCKETT, Mrs. R. H. of Fort Worth. Age 83. Died ?/1972 (Sunday) at her home. Services held (Tuesday) at Harverson-Cole Funeral Home Drawing Room in Ft. Worth. Burial in Austin Memorial Park, Austin. Dr. Maggart Howell officiated. Mrs. Crockett was a teacher in the Thorndale schools in the early years of her marriage and her husband was a practicing physician "here" for many years. CROFTS, Dr. Alfred E. "Pat" of Edinburg. Age 54. Died 12/1986 (Thursday) in Houston after a long illness. He had been an out-patient at M.D. Anderson Hospital. Memorial services held (Monday) in Edinburg. He was BORN 12/20/1932 to M/M. A.E. Crofts. Married Anne Dillen, formerly of Rockdale, on 11/25/1955 in New Braunfels. He was a professor of mathematics and statistics at Pan American Univ. in Edinburg, for the past 26 yrs. Also taught at Southern Methodist Univ. and The Univ. of Texas in Austin. CROUCH, William Monroe of 526 E. Davilla, Rockdale. Age 79. Died 2/1984 (Friday) at Richards Memorial Hospital after a short illness. Services held (Sunday) in Phillips & Luckey Chapel. Burial in IOOF Cemetery, Rockdale. Rev. M.E. Brown officiated. He was BORN 9/6/1904 in Gonzales Co. to M/M. William W. Crouch. He was a retired chemical engineer with Dow Chemical Co., Freeport Works. Married Jessie Mae Greg on 9/25/1925 in Clarksdale, Miss. Member of Masonic Lodge No. 414, AF&AM, Rockdale. CROW, Mrs. Doris (Dan) of Davilla. Age 39. Died ?/1962 or 1963 (Tuesday) when she was shot and killed by her former son-in-law, Oscar Cook. Services held (Friday) in Assembly of God Church in Davilla. Burial in Davilla Cemetery. Rev. R.L. Rhodes of Bryan officiated. Mrs. Crow's 3 children were also injured, Mary Louise Crow, 16, reported in serious condition; Mrs. Velma Cook, 21 and Danny Crow, 20, both were in fair condition and were taken to a Temple hospital. Oscar Cook was shot in the chest. He is in critical condition and in police custody. Police said Cook is the former husband of Mrs. Velma Cook and was released earlier in the day after being jailed at Cameron on a disturbance complaint. She was BORN 5/20/1924 near Rockdale the former Doris Hill, niece of Hugh, Dow, & Enoch Caffey of Thorndale. CROW, Mrs. Nelda Werchan of Austin. Age 69. Died 7/12/1988 (Tuesday) at her home. Services held 7/14/1988 (Thursday) at the Messiah Lutheran Church in Austin. (Burial information omitted). Rev. Philip Wahlberg and Rev. Judith Liro officiated. Condra Funeral Home of Taylor in charge of arrangements. She was BORN in Taylor 4/29/1919, the daughter of Frank Werchan and Selma Tiemann Werchan. She had lived in Austin for the past 50 years, and was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Austin. Preceded in death by 2 brothers and a sister. SURVIVORS: Daughter, Patricia Diane Crow of Austin; 3 sisters, Ella Stumhoffer of Brenham, Olga Walther of Thrall and Dolores Hubble of Taylor and a number of nieces & nephews. CRUM, Richard G. "Dick" of Midland. Age 84. Died 4/28/1977 after suffering a heart seizure. Services held 4/23 in St.Luke's United Methodist Church, Midland. Burial in Midland's Rest Haven Memorial Park. Rev. Curtis Cadenhead officiated. He was BORN 2/6/1893 in Helena, MT. A Midland resident since 1949 and employed by Skelly Oil Co. He also lived in Tulsa, OK., Dallas and Houston. He retired in 1959. Member of above church. He was a 32nd degree Mason, member of Scottish Rite Lodge 623 of Dallas and member of Dallas Consistory. SURVIVORS: Wife, Margaret Crum of Midland; 3 sisters, Mrs. Archie W. Adams of Butte, MT., Mrs. F.P. CRUMP, Jack M. of Rockdale. Age 77. Died 9/13/1962 in the Cameron hospital where his death was unexpected. He had entered the hospital 2 days before. Services held (Sat.) from the Phillips & Luckey Chapel. Burial in IOOF Cemetery. Rev. Frank Buechley of First Christian Church officiated. Honorary pallbearers were members of the K.P. Lodge. Jack Moorman Crump was BORN 6/28/1885 in Milam Co. and had lived his entire life in and near Rockdale. Son of Jefferson W. and Augusta Crump, and since a young man had been a farmer and also in later years a rancher. Married Miss Emma Pelzel on 9/25/1929 in Cameron. He carried on his activities until recently. For the past several months his health was failing, but his death was unexpected. SURVIVORS: Wife, Mrs. Emma Pelzel Crump; 3 sons, Emory Crump of Houston, Joe Crump and Frank Crump of Plains; daughter, Mrs. Mary Frances Howell of Houston; 2 brothers, Dr. T.E. CRYER, James Edward of Houston. Age 52. Died 6/15/1975 in an automobile accident. He apparently suffered a heart attack while driving. Services held (Tuesday) in Posey Chapel. Burial in the National Cemetery in Houston. He was BORN 7/11/1922 and the brother of Mrs. Clarence Pontruff of Rockdale. SURVIVORS: Mother, 4 sons, 4 daughters, brother, and 5 sisters. Mr. Cryer was BORN 1/5/1912 near Buckholts. Jesse Powell Mitcham and lived in the Sharp community most of her life. Married Jim S. Cryer on 11/10/1907 in Sharp. He preceded her in death on 3/21/1963. She was a member of the Baptist Church. SURVIVORS: Son, Floyd Cryer of Baytown; brother, Chesley Mitcham of Phoenix, AZ.; 2 grandsons, Floyd Cryer, Jr. of Baytown and Doyle Cryer of Houston; a great-grandson, Michael Cryer of Austin; 1 great-great-grandson, Brian Cryer of Austin. Services held 12/2/1982 (Thursday) in Condra Memorial Chapel in Taylor. Burial in Taylor City Cemetery. Rev. Bo Midkiff and the Rev. Dan Carroll officiated. He was BORN 6/17/1907 in Haskell County but had lived most of his life in the San Gabriel and Thorndale areas. Son of the late John Franklin and Jessie Dee Newton Culp. Member of the San Gabriel Christian Church and a WW-2 Veteran. SURVIVORS: Wife, Mildred Griffith Culp of Thorndale; sister, Mrs. Texana Baird of San Gabriel; 2 brothers, Sidney Culp of Buckholts and Ned Culp of Thorndale; several nieces and nephews. CULPEPPER, Fairy Grundy of Grady Community. Age 83. Died 4/1968. Services held (Monday) at 10 a.m. in the Highland Baptist Church. Burial in the Grady Cemetery by the side of her husband. Rev. V. He was BORN 9/27/1834 in Bosier Parish, LA. "Brother Curry was a most eccentric character, a man of a strong personality and well established concerns. What he thought was such he was never ashamed or loath to let it be known." Spent 4 years in Civil War, where he served with distinction.
