He was manager of used car sales and member of the above church in Houston. HIGGINS, Louis C. of Milano. Age 69. Died 7/1986 (Wed.) at his home in Milano. Graveside services held (Friday) in Milano Cemetery in Milano. He was BORN 8/5/1916 in Burlington, IO., the son of William Franklin & Maud Agnes Durkee Higgins. He was a longshoreman for Texaco in Port Arthur and was retired for 5 years. Mickey Loftis of Corsicana officiated. He was BORN 11/5/1908 at Menard to the late William Monroe Hight and Mrs. Hight. Married Ola Thomas in Austin on 12/23/1938. Preceded in death by his father. HILL, Mrs. Ethel (J. A.) Tahoka & Lubbock. Age 86. Died 6/12/1972 in University Convalescent Center, Lubbock. Services held (Wed.) in Franklin Bartley Chapel. Burial in cemetery at Tahoka. Rev. J.R. Church, pastor of Western Hills Baptist Church, officiated. She was BORN 4/16/1886, had lived in Wilson-Tahoka area for 42 years and was a resident of Lubbock for 6 years. HILL, Ione of West, TX. "in 4/29/1982 Champion it was reported that Mrs. L. Hyde had died in West, Tx. and that she was the former Beatrice Hill. The Champion learned this week that Mrs. L. Hyde is very much alive and that it was her sister, the former Ione Hill who had died. The Champion regrets the error, however, a member of the decease's family gave the information to the Champion."

HILL, James H. of Rockdale. Age 76. Died 2/19/1973 (Sat.) at his residence in Rockdale. He had been in failing health several months. Services held (Monday) at Phillips & Luckey Chapel in Rockdale. Burial in IOOF Cemetery, Rockdale. Masonic graveside services held by local Masons. Rev. D.D. Simpson pastor of First Baptist Church, officiated. BORN 1/16/1897, the son of the late M/M James H. Hill, Sr. He had lived all his life in Rockdale. He served as a Missouri Pacific Railroad ticket agent in Rockdale and later in Round Rock and Hearne for 53 years before retiring. Married Gertrude Powers at Marlin on 3/24/1938. Member of First Baptist Church and of the Masonic Lodge No. 414 of Rockdale. SURVIVORS: Wife, Gertrude Hill of Rockdale; sister, Mrs. Mary K. Whipp of Houston; number of nieces and nephews.

HILL, Jennie of Conoley Comm. (Thorndale). Age 84. Died 11/24/1938 (Tuesday) after cooking her noon meal she was stricken with a paralytic stroke about 3 in the afternoon, which she never rallied. Services held (Sat.) in the Methodist Church. Burial in the City Cemetery, where the deceased was placed beside her husband who passed on 3/22/1904. Pallbearers were 3 grandsons: Colvin and Orin Hill and Robert Titsworth and 3 nephews, Henry Story and John and Jeff Harris. She was BORN 11/19/1854 in Bastrop Co. near the city of Bastrop, to the late M/M. Gus Hemphill. "In early pioneer days when men began to settle in Texas, 5 brothers, Dock, Lafayette, Cornealious, Zeno and Augustus Hemphill settled near Bastrop, TX. in what is now known as Hemphill's Prairie. It was here in the home of Augustus Hemphill that Jennie Hemphill was born. The family later moved to Webberville where her father engaged in selling merchandise and drugs. It was from here he left for the Civil War. The daughter saw many interesting days with slaves, Indians, Yankees and other hardships which go with war. The father was a veteran of the Battle of San Jacinto." She married James A. Hill in Webberville on 12/22/1869 and they made their home in that community until 1886 when they moved to Conoley, Milam Co. and resided until death claimed them. After the death of her husband, a son, Marion Hill and family lived on the old homestead with his mother. At age of 12, Mrs. Hill united with the Methodist Church. She was a charter member of the Pleasant Retreat church and is the last of the charter members. Mother of 8 children, She was preceded in death by 3 children. SURVIVORS: 3 daughters, Mrs. John N. Moore of San Antonio; Mrs. A.F. Ramseaur of Conoley Comm.; Mrs. Elmer Titsworth of Thrall; 2 sons, E.J. Hill and Marion Hill, both of Conoley Comm.; brother, Lafe Hemphill of Austin; 20 grandsons, 6 granddaughters and 15 great-grandchildren.

HILL, John Tyler of Austin. Age 74. Died 5/30/1985 (Thursday). Services held (Sat.) in Chapel of the Bells, Wilke-Clay Funeral Home, Austin. Burial in Forest Oaks Memorial Park, Oak Hill. Rev. HILL, Murf of Temple. Age 80. Died ?/1963 (Wed.) in a Temple rest home after an extended illness. Services held (Thursday) at the Salty Methodist Church. Burial in Salty Cemetery. Rev. Leland Evans of Temple officiated, assisted by Rev. Clyde Poldrack. He was BORN 8/28/1883 in Alabama and came to Texas as a small child. Married Miss Rachel Caffey of Salty. He farmed around Thorndale & Davilla until retirement about 15 years ago. Member of Davilla Assembly of God Church. Preceded in death by wife in 1951; daughter, Mrs. Doris Crow; granddaughter, Mrs. Lou Graves. SURVIVORS: 5 daughters, Mrs. Ruth Locklin of Houston, Mrs. Clara Massey of Moody, Mrs. Lillian Gilleland and Mrs. Myrtle Miller of Temple and Mrs. Beulah Eilenbergr of Post; 2 sons, John Hill and Jyles Hill, both of Moody; brother, Bascum Hill of Thorndale; 33 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren.

HILL, William E. "Butch" of Milano. Age 40. Died 2/1982 (Thursday) when he shot himself at his home near Milano during an investigation by Milam Co. Sheriff's Dept. into the theft of oilfield equipment in the Milano area. Services held (Friday) in Phillips & Luckey Chapel. Burial in San Grove Cemetery. Rev. D.D. Simpson officiated. He was BORN 9/21/1941 in Milano to M/M. William (Demp) Hill. Employed as a mechanic at Industrial Generation Co. (TU Electric). Married Frankie Coldiron on 7/21/1962 in Texas City. Lifelong resident of Milano. BORN 1/10/1913 in Soda to M/M Robert Lee (Octavie Gilmore) Thompson. Married J.H. "Curley" Hilliard on 6/7/1931 in Edna, TX. She and Mr. Hilliard owned and operated Hilliard Drug Store in Lexington for more than 20 years, selling the business in 1955. She moved to Rockdale in 1972. Member of Meadowbrook Baptist Church of Rockdale and was a former member of Lexington First Baptist Church. She was a very active member of Sunday School classes. Preceded in death by husband on 5/21/1972 and by her parents, 3 sisters and a brother. HILLIARD, Mrs. J. A (Genoa) of Lexington. Age 92. Died ?/1973 (Thursday) at Brackenridge Hospital in Austin. She was admitted to the hospital on 1/17/1973. Services held in First Baptist Church of Lexington. Burial in Lexington City Cemetery. Rev. Lee Ramsour, pastor of First Baptist Church, Lexington, officiated. She was BORN 12/24/1880 in the String Prairie Community near Lexington to M/M George Ewing Gay. She was the last member of 13 children of the Gay family. Married J.A. Hilliard near Lexington in 1898. Couple had 4 children. Preceded in death by husband in 1955; daughter, Mrs. Aulean Bounds, 1961; and son, James H. Hilliard, in 5/21/1972. She was a lifelong member of the Baptist Church. SURVIVORS: 2 daughters, Mrs. C.B. Reynolds of Lexington; Mrs. B.E. Perkins of Pasadena; 7 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

HILLIN, Claud of Thorndale. Age 64. Died 10/29/1982 (Friday) at his home. Services held (Sat.) in Phillips & Luckey Memorial Chapel in Rockdale. Burial in Oak Lawn Cemetery in Rockdale. Rev. George Doss officiated. He was BORN 2/12/1918 in Tracy Community. He was a blacksmith, member of the Forest Grove Christian Church, veteran of WW-2. Married Robert E. Hillin 12/26/1933 in Rockdale. Preceded in death by her husband on 2/7/1984; also by parents. SURVIVORS: Daughter, Linda Jean Hillin of Houston; sister, Bernadine Svaton of Houston; niece, Rilla Schamnerhorn; nephew, Joe Simmons; 4 great-nephews and a great-niece.

HILLIN, Eary B. of Rockdale. Age 71. Died 3/21/1974 in Richards Hospital in Rockdale. Services held (Sat.) at Phillips & Luckey Chapel, Rockdale. Burial in Rosebud Cemetery. Rev. Buck Hillin officiated. He was BORN 10/11/1902 in Milam Co., to the late M/M. W.N. Hillin. Married Mrs. Jewell Whiteley in 1972. A son, Billy Joe Hillin, was killed while serving in the U.S. Navy during WW-2. Eary Hillin was retired from the Humble Oil Co. in 1952. SURVIVORS: Wife, Mrs. Jewell Hillin of Rockdale; daughter, Mrs. Margaret A. Rudenger of Uvalde; 5 brothers, W.H. of Rockdale, L.F. of Baytown, R.C. of Ft. Worth, E.N. and C.F. Hillin, both of Baytown; 2 sisters, Mrs. H.C. Long of Rosebud and Mrs. I.N. Miller of Abilene; 4 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild.

HILLIN, Jesse James "Dude" of Lubbock. Age 82. Died 2/5/1974 in Lubbock. His death came just 2 weeks after the death of his son, Roy James Hillin, 58, which occurred in Lubbock 1/23/1974. Services held 2/6 at Sanders Memorial Chapel. Burial in Lubbock Cemetery. Rev. Scott Mitchell officiated. "Dude" Hillin was BORN 11/25/1892 and formerly lived in Rockdale. Married Miss Myrtle Talbott and they had 6 children. Preceded in death by his wife, son and a daughter. SURVIVORS: Son, H.T. Hillin of Corpus Christi; 3 daughters, Lottie Beats of Montrose, CO., Artie England of Anaheim, CA., and Irene Clayton of Houston; twin brother, Buck Hillin of Rockdale; 16 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

HILLIN, Roy James of Lubbock. Age 58. Died 1/23/1974 in Lubbock. Services held at Sanders Chapel, Lubbock. Burial in Lubbock Cemetery. Revs. Marvin James and Hoyt Rachaels officiated. HILLIN, Mrs. Nellie of Hearne. Age 86. Died ?/1970 (Tuesday) in a Hearne hospital following a lengthy illness. Services held (Wed.) at Heartfield Funeral Home Chapel in Hearne. Burial in Oak Lawn Cemetery in Rockdale. Rev. H.E. Crone, pastor of the First Christian Church at Ingleside officiated. She was BORN 2/1/1883 in Mississippi, but moved to Texas as a young girl. She was preceded in death by her husband and a daughter, Mrs. Herman Speaker of Hitchcock. SURVIVORS: Son, Claude Hillin of Thorndale; 4 daughters, Mrs. Mamie Giles of Temple, Mrs. Ed McCoy of Rockdale, Mrs. Claude Sweaks of Hearne and Mrs. Bill Hill of Alvin; 2 sisters of Waco; 9 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

HILTON, Camye L. of Austin. Age 93. Died 12/30/1980 in an Austin nursing home after a long illness. Services held (Friday) in Phillips & Luckey Chapel, Rockdale. Burial in Salty Cemetery. Rev. C. Elaine Smith officiated. She was BORN 8/18/1887 in Milam Co. to William Franklin & Mary Elizabeth Brown Hilton. She lived in Austin for the past 2 yrs., but had formerly lived in Thorndale. HILTON, Shelby of Thorndale. Age 64. Died 1/1976 suddenly and unexpectedly (Sat.) at his home. Services held (Monday) in the Condra Funeral Chapel, Taylor. Burial in Salty Cemetery. Rev. Jim Willis, pastor of the Trinity United Methodist Church, Thorndale, officiated. He was BORN 5/17/1911 and a member of the above church. Member of AF&AM Masonic Lodge No. 978 in Thorndale. He was employed by Rockdale Sandow and Southern Railroad from the time Alcoa's plant opened (1952) until his retirement a few years ago. Howard Glendale Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements. He was BORN 2/2/1900, son of Albert & Maude Hinds of Yoakum. He attended school in Thorndale where he was the first of Thorndale's graduates to attain a Ph.D degree. Served as superintendent of Galena Park schools for many years before his retirement. Member of Galena Park Rotary Club, Masonic Lodge No. 1290 AF&AM, American Legion Craig Post No. 499, Galena Park Methodist Church. She was BORN, 9/4/1874, reared and married in northern Alabama near Guntersville. Married Albert Lee Hinds on 1/15/1897 and he preceded her in death in 11/1962. She had spent most of her married life in Texas and lived in the Thorndale / Rockdale area until she moved to Yoakum 20 yrs ago. Celebrated her 99th birthday on 9/4, at the home of her daughter and husband, M/M. Herbert Wade, where she had made her home for the past 10 yrs. Mrs. Hinds was the last member of a large family of brothers and sisters and many in-laws. SURVIVORS: 2 daughters, Mrs. C.D. (Katie Sue) Schwab and Mrs. H.T. HINOSTROZA, Moses of San Gabriel. Age 14. Died ?/1971 in an auto accident. Services held (Tuesday) at Pentecostal Church in Taylor. Burial in Taylor City Cemetery. Rev. Manuel Ochoa officiated. His brother, Noe, was reported in fair condition Tuesday at a Temple hospital, Moe sustained head and chest injuries in the accident. His brother, Tony, was released from the hospital after emergency treatment for cuts and bruises. Julio Vasquez 16, was also killed in the accident and Joe Vasquez, 15, was injured.
