He was known for his healing ability in Naturopathy in Walburg and Georgetown. He was active in his land, cattle and Inner Space Cavern businesses until shortly before his retirement. She was BORN Miss Agnes Sides on 3/8/1881 in the Shiloh Comm., Williamson Co., the daughter of the late James J. Sides and Louanna Olive Sides. Member of the Baptist Church since early girlhood and a member of the Thorndale church for 53 years. Married to Eugene L. Laurence on 11/11/1900. They had 5 sons and 1 daughter. LAURENCE, Dr. Eugene L. of Thorndale. Age 56. Died 9/1933 (Thursday) of ptomaine poisoning from sea food he ate in Waco on 9/15/1933. Services held (Saturday) from First Christian Church. Burial in Thorndale City Cemetery. Rev. R.E. Roberts and local Masonic Lodge District Judge Graham Gillis, officiated. He was BORN 11/23/1876 near Giddings in Lee Co., the second child of L.E. and Louanna Laurence. Married Miss Agnes Cornelia Sides on 11/11/1900. They had 6 children. He taught school from 1898 to 1903 when he entered Vanderbilt Univ. at Nashville, TN., to study medicine. Graduated 1907 with honors and began his medical practice in Thorndale. He enlisted in WW-1, serving in the Medical Corps and was stationed at Ft. McPhearson, GA. for 6 weeks before being transferred to San Juan, Puerto Rico and served there until 12/10/1918 when he was honorably discharge with the rank of 1st. Lieutenant. He returned to Thorndale to continue his practice until his death. Member of First Christian Church of Thorndale and of the local Masonic Lodge. Preceded in death by 2 children. She was BORN Farah Lee on 7/29/1891, to Duncan & Emma Williams Simmons, in the Shiloh Comm. Married Fred H. Laurence on 5/20/1907, he preceded her in death on 3/14/1970. Lifelong resident of Williamson Co. and until 5 yrs. ago had lived in Shiloh Comm., then moved to the Nursing Home in Taylor. Member of Shiloh Baptist Church. He was BORN 12/1/1886 at Shiloh in Williamson Co., the son of the late Lemuel E. and Louanna Sample Laurence. Married Farrah Lee Simmons on 5/20/08. Member of the Christian Church and for years was a Sunday School teacher. He was well-learned and knew all the early history of Shiloh Comm. About 18 months before death he joined his wife as a resident in a Taylor nursing home. He and wife observed their 62nd anniversary last May. Preceded in death by 6 brothers and 2 sisters. Hamilton of the First United Methodist Church officiated. Nephews were pallbearers. She was BORN 10/11/1901 to Silas and Martha Layne Abbott at Beaukiss in Williamson County. Member of the pioneer Texas family of Adam Lawrence and Sara Miller (Stephen F. Austin's "old 300" colony of 1822). Her maternal grandfather, Henry Layne, was an army officer at Washington on the Brazos and served with General Robert E. Lee in the Texas Wars of Independence around 1840. She grew up in the Lawrence Chapel and Beaukiss Communities and during WW-1 taught school in the Swiss-American Community of New Bern. Married Rufus Merrill Laurence in 1919 and he preceded her in death in 1959. Had resided in Ardmore since 1920 where Mr. Laurence founded the VI Ranch and R.M. Laurence, Inc. Member of above church in Ardmore for 60 years. SURVIVORS: Son, R.M. Married Evie Lankford Ponton in 1942 and she preceded him in death in 4/1959. He worked for many years for G.S. Summerlin and Son Grocery, he was a carpenter and plumber prior to his retirement. LAWRENCE, Mrs. Margie (Gilbert) of 106 Perdernales, Austin. Age 54. Died ?/1964 (Sunday) in a Austin hospital. Services held (Monday) from Wilke-Clay Funeral Home, Austin. LEECH, Lisbon R. of Carmichael, CA. Age 75. Died 9/2/1972 (Sat.) in Carmichael, CA. Services held in California. He was BORN 10/21/1896 and was known at "Ray" to his friends. Married Lillian Sealy of Lexington in 1920. Lived in Cameron when they married and was associated with his father, J.T. Leech and brother, Earl Leech, in an oil drilling venture. 3 children were born to the couple while they lived in Cameron and Rockdale, Lisbon R. Leech, Jr., Martha Lee and Doris Ann. In the 1930's the family lived on an oil lease near Rockdale and were active in Home Demonstration Club work. The children attended grade school in the Bethleham Comm. and Mr. Leech served on the board of trustees. An avid sportsman, Mr. Leech enjoyed hunting and fishing. During WW-2 the family moved to Arizona where they lived 6 years. After the war, they settled in Sacramento, CA., where they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1970. While in Rockdale, Mr. Leech was active in the Masonic Fraternity having served as Master of the Rockdale Lodge No.414. Family belonged to the First Methodist Church of Rockdale.
