He was BORN 12/25/1897. SURVIVORS: Wife, 6 children, 17 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; brother, G.J. Weaver of Thorndale. WEINKE, Mrs. Olga of Bellville. Died 6/29/1981 in Bellville. Those attending the funeral from Thorndale were her brother M/M. J.B. Zanek, their daughter, Mrs. Jo Murray and her daughter, Eva Lynn both of Round Rock.

WEISE, John August of Nile Community. Age 92. Died 2/1970 (Friday) following a brief illness in a Taylor Hospital. Services held (Sunday) in St.John Lutheran Church. Burial in Taylor City Cemetery. Rev. Walter J. Miller officiated. Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home of Rockdale in charge of arrangements. He was born 9/20/1878 in Germany. Came to U.S. as a small child. Married Miss Ann Reichel in 1904, she preceded him in death on 8/20/1966. Resided in Nile Comm. for more than 50 years and was a farmer. Since his wife's death and his retirement, he has made his home with his children. SURVIVORS: Daughter, Mrs. Henry (Tony) Eisfeldt of Thorndale; 6 sons, Walter of Rockdale, Lee of Thrall, Otto J., William E., Emzy and Robert Weise, all of Thorndale; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren. WEISE, Mrs. Lillian (Emzy) of Thorndale. Age 63. Died 10/7/1986 (Tuesday) in the Taylor hospital. Services held 10/9 (Thursday) in the St.John Lutheran Church. Burial in Taylor City Cemetery. Rev. Walter J. Miller officiated. She was BORN 8/11/1923. Member of St.John Lutheran Church and the VFW Auxiliary No. 4009 of Thorndale. WEISE, O. F. of Thorndale. Age 79. Died 7/1962 (Sat.) (in paper 7/19/62) in an Austin hospital following a lingering illness. Services held (Tuesday) from St.Paul's Lutheran Church. Burial in the Church Cemetery. Rev. Vernon Appel officiated. Condra Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. He was BORN 10/09/1882 at Serbin in Lee Co., TX. to the late Ernest & Mary Kappler Weise. Following his elementary education and some high school classes he enrolled in the Baylor School of Pharmacy in Dallas, graduating in 1910. Married Miss Lydia Dube on 11/16/1910. Couple moved to Milam Co. in 1911 where he worked in a drug store at Rockdale for 8 mos. Later that year he accepted a position with Kappler-Weise Drug Store. 1912 he bought Mr. Kappler out and the store, known as the Red Cross Drug Store existed until 1958 when due to ill health, he retired. Civic minded he served several terms as alderman on the City Council. Director of the Thorndale State Bank since 12/31/1935. Member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Celebrated their golden anniversary 11/16/1960. Preceded in death by daughter, Olga, 3 brothers and a sister. SURVIVORS: Wife, Lydia; 2 daughters, Mrs. E.E. WELCH, Lucile Irene of Rockdale & Houston. Age 70. Died 11/5/1972 at Methodist Hospital in Houston of a heart attack. Memorial services in Bethany Christian Church in Houston. Private graveside services held 11/8. She was BORN 3/4/1902 and had taught voice in Rockdale from 1951 until 1953, and maintained a close interest in the community and her former students, of which several had competed in state competition. Son, Byron Welch, was a former minister of Rockdale's First Christian Church. M/M. Welch had been married 52 years. WELCH, Thomas "Bubba" of Rockdale & Mississippi. Age 65. Died 4/19/90 (Thursday) in Manor Oaks Nursing Home, Rockdale. Memorial services held 4/22 (Sunday) in Landmark Missionary Baptist Church. Rev. WERNER, Albert C. of Houston. Age 78. Died 5/1969 (Monday) in Houston. Services and burial in Houston (no other funeral info listed). He was BORN 1/3/1891 in Serbin to the late M/M. Henry Werner. Came to Thorndale at an early age. He was a retired druggist and had resided in Houston for 40 years. Member of Lutheran Church. SURVIVORS: Wife, Mrs. Ella Werner; 2 daughters, Mrs. Evelyn Gainey, Houston and Mrs. Iris Lester, Austin; brother, Carl Werner of Thorndale; 2 sisters, Mrs. Minnie Waiser, Houston and Mrs. Louise Doering of Houston; several grandchildren. WERNER, Mrs. Henry of Thorndale. Age 102. Died ?/1960. Services held (Friday) at St.Paul's Lutheran Church. Burial in the Church Cemetery. Rev. Vernon Appel, pastor, officiated. Condra Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Werner was BORN 1/12/1858 at Buffalo, NY., the daughter of M/M John Goettelmann. Her mother died when she was 3 years old and father was killed 2 years later in the Battle of Bull Run where he fought as a soldier under Gen. McClellan. She was placed in the St.John Lutheran Orphanage in Buffalo when she was 5. At age 15 she was sent to Germany to a Lutheran School, pursuing her career as a nurse. Also received instructions as a deaconess; this later aided her as the director of an orphanage at Sulphur Springs, NY. She met Mr. Werner, who was a Canadian instructor for boys in the same institution. He came to Texas in 1883 and accepted a position as a teacher in Giddings. Several weeks later she joined him and the couple married, both were faculty members there for 3 years. Resided in Serbin for the next 15 years and moved to Thorndale 10/7/1901. He was head instructor of St.Paul Lutheran School until his death in 1925. Mrs. Werner continued to live in the same house with her son, Carl, until her death. She was the mother of 12 children, 5 living. SURVIVORS: 2 daughters, Mrs. Minnie Waiser and Mrs. Louise Doering of Houston; 3 sons, Carl Werner of Thorndale, Rev. L.J. Werner of Dallas and Albert C. WERNLI, Miss Alice of Taylor. Age (?). Died ?/1970. Services held in Taylor on Sunday. Mrs. Bill Clark, Mrs. Ora Case and Miss Ella Yeager attended the services. Miss Wernli was the sister of Mrs. Clark's daughter-in-law, Mrs. Gus Clark. The trio from Thorndale were met in Taylor by Mrs. Gladys Stigall and Bob Stigall.

James Greene of above church officiated. Phillips & Luckey in charge of arrangements. He resided in Rockdale since 1948. He was BORN 1/18/1915 in Buda to M/M. Arthur & Penelipa Bunton Wesley. He was a 1st-class equipment operator in Alcoa's Carbon Plant prior to his retirement in April 1980. Preceded in death by 3 sons. Member of Allen Chapel AME Church. WESTBROOK, Richard D. of San Diego, CA. Age 38. Died 10/20/1982 (Wed.) in Mercy Hospital in Dan Diego, CA. Memorial services held (Friday) at Cross Atop Mount Soledad. He was BORN 3/17/1944 in McComb, MS., the son of Mrs. Martha Westbrook of Thorndale and the late Donald Westbrook. He graduated from Thorndale High School, & Texas Christian Univ., receiving a master's degree in business administration from Central Missouri State Univ. and graduated from California Western School of Law in 1974, being admitted to the bar that same year. He specialized in injury and wrongful death cases. A member of the law firm of Casey, Gerry, Westbrook, Reed and Hughes. He was described as one of San Diego's outstanding trial attorneys. WESTERMAN, Herman of Houston. Age 64. Died 5/17/1981. A maintenance man sweeping the parking lot at a motel court, found the body (Thursday) in northwest Houston in his locked van. He had been missing for appx. 3 months. Memorial services held on (Friday) in Christ Lutheran Church in Lake Jackson. Private graveside services held in Bellville cemetery. He was BORN 1/10/1917. He was a retired traffic manager for Dow Chemical Co., operated a flea market and antique shop in Houston. On or about 5/17 he left his place of business to be gone about 30 minutes, so he stated to another businessman. He was not seen again until the body was found. Manager of Men's Dept. at Thorndale Mercantile Co. for many years. Affiliated with City Drug Store until 1929, when he became distributor of Texaco products for area until retirement in 1959. Civic-minded and served as Mayor of Thorndale at one time. Lifelong member of above church and member of Sons of Hermann. Preceded in death by parents, 2 sisters and 7 brothers.
