ZIMMERHANZEL, Charlie of Taylor. Age 72. Died 7/28/1989 (Friday) in Johns Community Hospital following a lengthy illness. Rosary recited Sunday at Condra Memorial Chapel. Services held 7/31 (Monday) in St.Mary's Catholic Church. Burial in Capital Memorial Park. Rev. Howard Goertz officiated. He was BORN 10/23/1916 at Cistern, near Flatonia and came to Taylor in 1938, from Elgin where he had been in business partnership in the Southside Market. He served as the local Grand Prize Beer distributor for a time before founding Taylor Meat Company in partnership with his late brother, Van Zimmerhanzel in 1947. Retired from the business on 1/1/85. His brother, Paul, joined the business in 1957. He was a member of St.Mary's Catholic Church. Veteran of WW-2, where he was assigned to the Second Division, in the Battle of the Bulge. He was active in civic affairs, Rotary Club and FFA Livestock & Poultry Show and Sale, chairing the buyer committee. He served as director of First Taylor National Bank for many years. Belonged to numerous civic organizations. Preceded in death by 2 brothers, Van and Joe Zimmerhanzel. She was BORN 9/22/1928 in Taylor to Steve Rieger, Jr. and Adell Miertschin Rieger. Lived in Thorndale all her life. Attended St.Paul Lutheran School in Thorndale and graduated from Thorndale High School with honors in 1945. Married Floyd Zuehlke on 7/11/1948. In 1948, Floyd and Joy started a business in Taylor, which was then known as Floyd's Paint and Body Shop. The business grew over the years and includes Floyd's Glass Co., which has the corporate name of FLOYDCO, Inc. She was co-owner with her husband and an officer and director of this corporation. She was also in partnership with her mother in the family business in Thorndale known as Steve's Cash Store, which she actively participated since her father's death in 1967 until 12/1968. She gave much time to her church and civic organizations in her community. Lifelong member of St.Paul Lutheran Church in Thorndale, where she was baptized and confirmed by the late Rev. F.H. Stelzer. Associate member of Thorndale Volunteer Fire Dept. Auxiliary, charter member of VFW Hill Johns Post 4009 Auxiliary. Douglas Stolleis officiated. She was BORN c.1920 in Bell Co., the daughter of Press & Gladys Pyeatt and was a secretary at Dixon Elementary School for several years. Member of First Lutheran Church of Temple. Husband, Charlie Zuehlke, preceded her in death, also a daughter. SURVIVORS: 2 daughters, Sylvia Ann Hammel of West Virginia, Cynthia Swindle of Temple; sister, Mary Alice Chaney of Temple; 4 grandchildren.

Services held (Friday) at St.Mary's Catholic Church. Burial in church cemetery. Rev. Howard Goertz officiated. She was BORN 9/22/1911 in Thrall to the late Joe & Mary (Smalik) Zezulka. Lived in Taylor for 37 years and a member of above church and the SPJST Lodge. Employed with the University of Texas - Housekeeping Div. for 15 years. Preceded in death by husband, Joe Zezulka, two sisters, 4 brothers, and son, Leo Zycha. SURVIVORS: 3 daughters & husbands, Lillian & Melvin Crisp, Irene & Charlie Bucanek, Darlene & John Pyle, Jr. of Taylor; son, James & wife, Brenda Zycha of Thrall; sister, Elsie Faltesek of Round Rock; brother, Frank Zezulka of Taylor; 14 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren.
